Terms of Use
Last updated: September 30, 2026
These terms govern your use of the hugshot app. By creating an account or using hugshot, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use hugshot.
1. Who we are
hugshot is published by Frédéric Dinand. You can reach us at contact@hugshot.app.
2. What hugshot is
hugshot lets two people who meet in person shake their phones together to take a photo of each other, a hugshot. People you take a hugshot with become your pals. hugshot also lets you comment, send messages, and gather hugshots into Moments.
3. Who can use hugshot
You must be at least 13 years old to use hugshot. If you are under the age of digital consent where you live (15 in France), you need a parent's permission. You must give us a true date of birth, and you may only have one account.
4. Your account
You sign in with Apple or Google. You are responsible for what happens on your account and for keeping access to it secure. Your username must not impersonate someone else or be offensive. You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app.
5. Your content
You own the photos and text you create in hugshot. To run the service, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, resize and display your content to the people who can see it in hugshot. This licence ends when your content or your account is deleted, except for copies in backups that expire on their own schedule.
A hugshot is taken by two people and belongs to both. Each of you can see it, save it and share it. Before you take a hugshot, make sure the person you take it with is happy to be in it.
6. Rules
When you use hugshot, you must not:
- photograph someone without their consent, or share their hugshots against their will;
- post nudity, sexual content, violence, hate, harassment or anything illegal;
- involve a minor in any sexual or harmful content;
- impersonate someone or create fake accounts;
- fake a hugshot, for instance by spoofing your location or shaking two phones alone;
- spam, scrape, reverse-engineer, overload or break into hugshot or other users' accounts.
You can report a hugshot, a comment, a message or an account from the app, block anyone, or write to us. We review reports within 24 hours, remove content and ban accounts that break these rules, and cooperate with the authorities when the law requires it. See our Child Safety Standards.
7. Our service
hugshot is free. We work to keep it available and reliable, but it is provided as is: it may have bugs or be unavailable at times, and we may change, add or remove features. We may stop offering hugshot, in which case we will give you notice so you can save your hugshots.
8. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damage, lost data or what other users do or post. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.
9. Privacy
How we handle your personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it applies. If you keep using hugshot after that, you accept the new terms.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. If there is a problem, write to us first and we will try to solve it together. If we cannot, you may use a consumer mediator or go to the competent courts. If you live in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country.
